PhD candidate Judi Lowe was awarded Best PhD Student Presentation at the 13th International Coral Reef Symposium in Hawaii. Judi’s thesis is ‘dive tourism and its impact on integrated costal management and livelihoods for artisanal fishers’. Held every four years, ICRS is sanctioned by the International Society for Reef Studies and is the primary international meeting focused on coral reef science and management. 2,500 coral reef scientist, policy makers and managers from 70 nations gathered in Hawaii to present the latest research findings, case histories and management activities, and discuss the application of scientific knowledge to achieving coral reef sustainability.
