Dive tourists are attracted to healthy coral reefs and marine resources. Dive operators often close off areas of coral reef as house reefs or no-take zones, restricting the access of fishers and communities and threatening livelihoods.

 

 

Poverty reduction is a commonly accepted indicator of sustainable development, generally addressed through benefits derived from improving the management of fisheries that in turn provide food and livelihoods for artisanal fishers (White et al, 2005).

Diversified livelihoods do however, reduce economic vulnerability and reliance on a single source of income
