best practice
The results of the quantitative survey and three Bright Spots case studies have led to the building of a best practice model of sustainable dive tourism. The model defines how to structure dive tourism to include integrated coastal management and livelihoods for fishers and communities to conserve coral reefs and marine resources.
The model will be used to:
- Educate dive operators on how to include integrated coastal management to conserve coral reefs and marine resources. Marketing advantages are expected to arise from the adoption of best practice dive tourism.
- Influence dive tourists in their consumer choice of dive operators.
- Influence MPA managers in their inclusion of dive tourism as a private sector participant in integrated coastal management and the management of marine protected areas.
- Work with donors to coral reef conservation to achieve the dual goals of conservation of coral reef resources and poverty alleviation by diversifying the livelihoods of local fishers and their communities.
The best practice model of sustainable dive tourism will be released as research results are published.
