84% of dive operators in tropics have dive sties in marine protected areas

84% of dive operators in the tropics report that they have dive sites located within marine protected areas (MPAs). This is no surprise because MPAs are designed to protect the coral reefs, fish stocks, marine resources and threatened species we love to dive with. Dive operators benefit financially from healthy coral reefs, fish stocks and marine resources, giving them a commercial interest in conservation. Several questions pop up. How well are those MPAs protected? What is the role of dive tourism in conserving within MPAs? Stay tuned as we use survey results to answer these questions.
